Calendar Design

This was one of the most challenging assignments of the foundation of my course. The design brief for this assignment was pretty straight forward: Design a Calendar. But this was not at all easy job, coz we had a biggest constrain, that the calendar cannot be like the ones found in market or seen in everyday life. It had to be something different, something new… Everybody in my class started scratching their heads for best of the ideas. Some unique idea struck to my mind. This was only after thinking why should not be my calendar something different… which I had not seen earlier… it should be customer focused… and should be really of help to the customer…

This all lead me to think for people who are really health and calorie conscious!! I decided to make a calendar for calorie conscious ones!! Basically this calendar has been designed for actors, models, executives or any person who thinks s (he) is calorie conscious.

Then I started thinking about what all is required for a person who is always keeping a check on his calories. It was like what they eat? What they drink? How much they work? Do they exercise? If yes, then what kind of? How much? So all sorts of ideas started clicking to me in my mind. I also searched for some statistical data for how much a person takes in calories from all kinds of food and how much he can burn out on a regular working day. It started getting more complex… Veg and Non-veg were making all the fuss. So I straight away decided to mark my own point system. I averaged out the points from the calories.

The point system had 2 basic divisions viz. Calorie taken in and Calories burned out. Further they were categorised and each category was named by an alphabet.

For example A was for breakfast, B was for lunch and so on… even the snacks and coffees/teas were considered for the calculation. In the calorie burn out section I had categories for 45 mins rigorous exercise , 45 mins of sports and so on… which were named like Z, Y, X…

Finally there were A,B,C,D,E,F in calorie intake and Z,Y,X,W,V in calorie burn out divisions. So what a person has to do in this calendar is against today’s date he needs to write A,B,C,D, and so on if he takes his breakfast, lunch, coffee, dinner in the day. Also he needs to mark Z, Y if he has done some exercise. Each of the categories had some points. So at the end of the month one has to calculate the number of A’s B’s C’s …. Z’s Y’s he has gained. According to point system planned, he has to do some calculations and he gets whether he has lost or gained calories and that too by how much amount!!

Also to top it up it can also count how many cigarettes you have smoked in the month if one writes the number regularly, everyday. It has got some tips and advice like use Luke warm water to drink, helps you digest your food faster, warm up before you play any sport and something of this kind.

So this calendar aims at keeping you fit and healthy by just simple calculations.!

The calendar looks something like this. Please don’t mind for the quality of photo. It’s a wooden base. On it I have worked on paper. A card paper.! The “C” shaped white thing on the left is the present month. And 12 such C’s are provided for each month. Also place is provided on each date to write down the number of A,B,C… you gained. On top and middle portion are tips, advice and some informative data for calculations. Also some sheets are provided for calculations which are kept in a bracket like structure. Every month you can write the months total in the space provided on the right hand side bottom. And hence the Calendar got its name as CALORIE COUNTER CALENDER

:-( Bare me for low quality photo (clicked from mobile)
