After the theme selection we started with the practical work in the studio. We had a soft board type material which we had to cut into the desired shape and size. All just geared up with carpentry tools and were set to cut. Khaarrrr Khaarrrr Khaarrr Khaarr went the noise.
After cutting the base we had to start with the difficult task of cutting the Mural shapes. Some had circles, rectangles, squares.... while some had curves and triangles and et all...
Some of us started, by placing the material in the vice and tightened it for cutting and filing it fine to desired shape.
While some the guys used the drilling machine to get blanks of desired shape
After drilling we used the vice and files to get the finest shapes.
In the studio we also had a grinding machine for super-finishing the shapes that we had acquired from earlier operations. It was a simple fine abrasive belt which rotated at a very high speed. We had to place our shapes and press them a little bit against the belt so as to get the fine shape.
After this task came the big one, painting, which was not at all easy and had many steps in its procedure. The first step was to make all the surfaces super fine and remove all the burr if any with the polish paper. The 2nd step included application of base coat which was white in colour. We had to apply this base coat 2-3 times to make it thick enough after drying so we could apply colours on it.
Later the game of colours started. We had only 3 primary colours viz Red, Blue, Yellow.

And the rest of the colours had to be created individually by mixing the above ones!!
In this assignment we practically learned how to use the tools and machines by discovering on our own and also learned how the colours act with each other when mixed!!
We applied 2-3 coats of the decided colours to get the final output.
This is how my Mural Design looked before and after painting.
After this task we gathered all the murals made by my class mates and tried composing them as a one whole big mural. The permutation combination started.. This one over here.. that over there.. no no.. this is better over here were some of the common dialogues heard while composing it. But all were sure something interesting is going to come out...
Till then half of the team was working on the background for the mural. A large 10ft x 4ft wooden plank was selected to make a background and it was spray painted black in colour to give it a rich texture!! It was fun...

William Sir demonstrated spray painting and later on me and Pritam tried our hands @ it.
The planks were dry to fix the individual murals on it. They were to be nailed which was also an enjoyable task to work as a group. The hammering of nails was soon done to finish up the BIG MURAL.

Nails being hammered into individual pieces.

So everybody applied it and kept it for drying just watching at it!!

Till the time the planks were painted the composition of murals was finalized..
